Jan Hus was burned at the stake on 6 July 1415.
For standing up and teaching from the Word of God.
He was martyred not for teaching heresy but for matters of church discipline and practice. Though, he was taken to the stake on hearsay heretical matters. Jan Hus is one of the early Church fathers who stood up for truth. He had a genuine faith in the saving grace of our Lord Jesus and did not waver in his teaching of the Gospel.
This prayer is not for Jan Hus but for us, to follow in like manner in the face of very real hardships.
A Prayer for Christian Endurance:
Almighty God, who gave to your servant Jan Hus
Boldness to confess the Name of our Saviour
Jesus Christ before the rulers of this world, and courage to
die for this faith: Grant that we may always be ready to give
a reason for the hope that is in us, and to suffer gladly for
the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with
you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
